When do I need to submit a claim by?

For each Benefit there is a specific timeframe for submitting your claim. This is called the notification period. If you do not submit your claim within the time specified we may not be able to accept the claim.

No notification period
Serious Illness Cover (All) Written notice must be received within 6 months of the life changing event
LifestyleCare Cover Written notice must be received within 6 months of the life changing event
Disability Cover
  • Category A, B, D Written notice must be received within 6 months of the life changing event
  • Category C Written notice must be received within 3 months of the life changing event
Mortgage Incapacity Cover Written notice must be received as soon as possible after the date of the incapacity
Income Protection Cover
  • Deferred period of 7 days Written notice must be received immediately
  • Deferred period of 1 month Written notice must be received within 2 weeks of the date of the incapacity
  • Deferred period of 3 months Written notice must be received within 1 month of the date of the incapacity
  • Deferred period of 6 or 12 months Written notice must be received within 2 months of the date of the incapacity
Waiver of Premium on Serious Illness Written notice must be received within 6 months of the date of the life changing event
Waiver of Premium on Incapacity
  • Deferred period of 7 days Written notice must be received immediately
  • Deferred period of 1 month Written notice must be received within 2 weeks of the date of the incapacity
  • Deferred period of 3 months Written notice must be received within 1 month of the date of the incapacity
  • Deferred period of 6 or 12 months Written notice must be received within 2 months of the date of the incapacity
  • Unemployment Cover
  • Carer Cover
St Andrews must receive written notice no later than 120 days after unemployment commences

Is my illness covered?

Rest assured that with VitalityLife Serious Illness Cover, over 1701 conditions are covered in the eventuality that you need to make a claim.

Although we don’t cover you for minor illness, such as tonsillitis, IBS or broken bones2, you can familiarise yourself with the serious illnesses that we cover by either checking the Plan Provisions sent at the start of your policy, or using our handy online tool.

Your Plan Schedule will state whether you have Primary or Comprehensive Cover. Please note that conditions covered will be dependent on when you took out your policy.
